Aug 05, 2020 · We hiked on the slot canyon trail at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. The trail begins on a sandy path & you hike through a slot canyon with towering "tent rocks". The trail then becomes steep as you climb up to the mesa. You are rewarded with panoramic views of the mountains and of the tent rocks below. I arrived at about 7:15 on a Sunday morning, and there was plenty of parking.

Access to these trails is free, except for Jemez Slot canyon which is on Jemez Pueblo land and requires a permit from the Jemez Pueblo Visitor Center (Walatowa) located across the street.

This trail leads to a unique slot canyon that seems out of place in San Diego County not far from the Pacific Ocean.

Exiting the slot canyon the area will open up more and you'll get closer to some massive hoodoos. The trail starts to climb from here for a short while until you reach the mesa top, dotted with gnarled old juniper trees.
